If you take an O.T.C drugs, or any drug for that matter, ....?

What parts are being used in the body and what is excreted out? Does the O.T.C drug or drug still remain effective if you excrete it out? Does it still have harmful substances when it is excreted out? (tell me more about excretion and taking medicines)
Answer:
It depends on the classification of drug that it is. Some drugs may stimulate the brain almost immediately like nicotine or other psychoactive drugs. Other drugs pass thorough the portal vein and its bioavailability (amount that can pass into the circulation) is lessened or not changed depending on the drug. If you research the drug you can find out its bioavailability, LD50(amount to take to kill you), how its metabolised etc. There are 2 phases in drug metabolism and it depends on the drug what route it takes so the by products would be different. Drugs after metabolism wouldnt noramally be harmful (thats why you take them in the first place) because its normally deactivation of the drugs active site and so it wouldnt be harmful but adverse drug reactions can occur due to chirality (kind of like a spatial change in the molecule). The best site to look up for drug metabolism and all that stuff is www.rxlist.com
